The Kimball Salt Lake City offers a convenient location near downtown and Temple Square, frequently praised for its value and spacious rooms, especially for those needing kitchen facilities. While many guests appreciate its nostalgic charm and helpful staff, some have experienced issues with maintenance and unexpected charges.
We love having this housing option so close to down town. Nice rooms, each with a unique character.
For years now, going on thirty years, we've stayed at a timeshare we own at the Kimball for several weeks each fall. We come to Salt Lake City each fall to do research at the Family History Library which is just a block and a half or so from the Kimball, so the Kimball location is ideal for us. Above and beyond location, we've always found the staff at the Kimball very courteous, helpful, and friendly. We deal with them by phone to set our weeks each year, and then deal with them in person when we're staying at the Kimball, and they couldn't be nicer. The rooms aren't luxurious, but they're comfortable and almost always quiet. The kitchenette is a real convenience for those who cook and eat in their rooms, as we do for at least most meals. Our one negative experience at the Kimball, for which I don't think the Kimball was responsible, was hearing a loud, loud cannon boom right outside our window the night of the 2024 elections just after telecasters announced that Mr. Trump had won the election. We never determined where the sound came from, but it went on for several minutes, and seemed to emanate from one of main office buildings of the LDS headquarters, which are right across the street from the Kimball, or from the church history building next to the Kimball. It seemed to be a cannon blast played on a powerful loudspeaker. That experience made me wonder if I ever wanted to return to Salt Lake City and the Kimball again. This year, I decided to put it behind me and make the annual trip again, but with some trepidation — and, as I say, I don't think the Kimball and its management had any role to play in making that cannon boom loudly for a number of minutes after it was announced that the Republican presidential candidate had just won the election.
First time staying and its nice. Got the one bedroom apartment. Well furnished in the kitchen with everything you might need except food.
Great room for the price. Loved having 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Only issues were there was a water leak in the bathroom ceiling and the top plug ins of all the outlets didnt work.
Stayed here for a conference and the location is perfect for the convention center and aspen at the front desk was such a wonderful human being and so helpful and made my stay here. Feel at home would recommend to stay here for anyone who needs a visit to Salt Lake City.
We booked The Kimball on July 14 to the 21st. The staff was amazing. Darrell was exceptional. The first three days the bathroom ceiling leaked so when you sat on the toilet, you got wet. They did come and fix it, but it started again two days before we’re leaving. The day the maintenance came to fix it. He left our air-conditioning off so when we got back to our room, it was 84° at 10 PM at night. It took all night to cool the room down. The refrigerator froze Most of our food. They compensated us one night of our stay which didn’t replace the $170 that we had spent on groceries. I would not stay here again
I'm blown away by this place. The amount of square footage you get for the price is crazy! This room was bigger than my first apartment! The location is perfect, right in the middle of anything you'd ever need. The rooms and building have a nostalgic feel of the early 2000s without being old and outdated. A little thing, but it was really cool to get a real room key. The rooms are fully stocked with any kind of dish or appliance you'd need- coffee pot, blender, colander, wine opener, pasta spoon, you name it. We were actually sad that we only arranged to stay here one night- never have I wanted to stay in a hotel longer than arranged before. This will be my go-to for any future SLC trips.
I booked The Kimball because I was doing research at the Church History Library and the rates were considerably cheaper than anywhere else downtown. I was extremely happy with the location (right at Temple Square) and the accommodations. Several other reviews labelled the rooms as dated, but this is only partially true. There are really beautiful hardwood dressers, as well as HDTV with Roku. More of a mix of old world charm, function and the little tech updates (like a usb plug in the bedside lamp) that make the place unique. Everything was clean and functional. Kori at the front desk was extremely pleasant and helpful, and sent a text every day to see if I needed anything. I guess some folks might find that intrusive, but I found it convenient and attentive. I taught an online college course from the study area in my suite and the wifi did a good job of supporting that need to upload live video. THere was a fold out couch/bed that I never used, but this would have made the suite comfy for four people, Two bathrooms as well. I will almost certainly need to come back for more research and I will make every effort to stay at The Kimball again. You can get a newer/more updated place close by, but you will pay a premium for a place you are mostly just going to sleep at. Clean, Quiet, Safe and a perfect location!
Overall good hotel, but shady charging practices. Gave two stars because overall this is a good place to lodge. Be warned, however, that they WILL charge you for parking whether or not you have a vehicle you will NOT get that money back. I cannot endorse this business because of their immoral charge of parking and refusal to return phone calls to paying customers.
Unique place to stay for our RCI trip. Used to be an old apartment building now a hotel. Room (actually a 1 bedroom apartment) was big enough, fully furnished kitchen. Bed was comfortable. Felt comfortable inside the lobby and coffee nook. It was quiet. Good security and neighborhood was good.
